Dark Red King Kong is a Caridina cantonensis shrimp from the Taiwan Bee group, recognised for its deep red pigmentation and heavily coloured body. The photographed shrimp displays dark wine-to-red coverage extending across most of the head, carapace and abdomen, producing a much more uniform appearance than strongly patterned red-and-white Taiwan Bee varieties. Subtle differences in opacity and red intensity remain visible across the body. Individual Dark Red King Kong shrimp can naturally vary in colour depth and coverage, ranging from rich red to darker wine-red tones while retaining the characteristic heavily pigmented phenotype.
Dark Red King Kong shrimp are best maintained in a mature, fully cycled soft-water aquarium with stable conditions. A buffering active substrate paired with remineralised RO water is commonly used for Taiwan Bee Caridina to maintain low KH and mildly acidic water. Provide established biofilm, mosses and other grazing surfaces alongside a balanced shrimp diet. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, TDS or mineral concentration, particularly during water changes. Careful acclimation and consistent water chemistry help support healthy moulting, long-term maintenance and breeding.
